Christmas Haul!

Christmas Haul!

Hello WordPress! So Christmas is over and it’s officially the new year. I hope you all had wonderful holiday’

I had a really good holiday. I surprisingly got three books for Christmas. Normally I only get B&N gift cards but this year I got the book that I wanted and more. Two beautiful bookmarks, Leviathan, Why does my bird do that, and The invention of Hugo Cabret.

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

“Prince Aleksander, would-be heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, is on the run. His own people have turned on him. His title is worthless. All he has is a battletorn war machine and a loyal crew of men.

Deryn Sharp is a commoner, disguised as a boy in the British Air Service. She’s a brilliant airman. But her secret is in constant danger of being discovered.

With World War I brewing, Alek and Deryn’s paths cross in the most unexpected way…taking them on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure that will change both their lives forever.”

The Invention Of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

“Orphan Hugo Cabret lives in a wall. His secret home is etched out in the crevices of a busy Paris train station. Part-time clock keeper, part-time thief, he leads a life of quiet routine until he gets involved with an eccentric, bookish young girl and an angry old man who runs a toy booth in the station. The Invention of Hugo Cabret unfolds its cryptic, magical story in a format that blends elements of picture book, novel, graphic novel, and film. Caldecott Honor-winning author-illustrator Brian Selznick has fashioned an intricate puzzle story that binds the reader like a mesmerist’s spell.”

What did you receive for the holidays?

Is there anything you would like to see more of? Youtube video’s? Reviews? Maybe an interview or something?
Let me know in the comments.
Happy Holidays!

The Hobbit

The Hobbit trailer looks so good!
I’ve been planning to read the book so this trailer totally gives me the motivation to do so.
Love the Lord of the Rings…(Although I haven’t read those books either, and yes before you say anything I know I have to hurry up and read them) I plan to. I most definitely do….As soon as my book buying ban leash has been lengthened by my mother and I am allowed to borrow from the library or buy books. (Although I did just get B&N money so…my ban may have to be thrown out the window for Christmas) We’ll see, but anyway. I shall keep you all updated if I do get around to reading anything of the Lord of the Rings nature anytime soon.

Blogger or WordPress?

So, come the new year, I will be switching to WordPress. I used to have one and then when I made my blog I saw that most people had a Blogger, but I miss WordPress and especially the option to reply to comments. I understand WordPress better and that is why I am switching back.

Just wanted to give a heads up.

P4A! My Charity Choices.

There are tons of charities out there. Here are a few of the one’s that I am think are amazing. Anything I post is taken from the websites listed. Project for the Awesome Page Check it out for full details on what it’s all about. Submit your videos, Share, Like, and Vote for your favorite Charities.

1. Shriners Hospitals for Children

Our mission.

“Shriners Hospitals for Children has a mission to:
  • Provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment.
  • Provide for the education of physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Conduct research to discover new knowledge that improves the quality of care and quality of life of children and families.
This mission is carried out without regard to race, color, creed, sex or sect, disability, national origin or ability of a patient or family to pay.

Our vision.

Shriners Hospitals for Children will be the unquestioned leader, nationally and internationally, in caring for children and advancing the field in its specialty areas.”
This charity does amazing things. My mom has a friend who’s son had an arm and leg amputated and they paid for all of his medical expenses and it changed the boys world. Seriously an amazing charity.
Here’s The Deal
Since 2003, we’ve set up and organized Child’s Play, a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in our network of over 70 hospitals worldwide. Over the years, you as a community have answered the call and come together to raise millions of dollars.
Child’s Play works in two ways. With the help of hospital staff, we set up gift wish lists full of video games, toys, books, and other fun stuff for kids. By clicking on a hospital location on our map, you can view that hospital’s wish list and send a gift.
Child’s Play also receives cash donations throughout the year. With those cash donations, we purchase new consoles, peripherals, games, and more for hospitals and therapy facilities. These donations allow for children to enjoy age-appropriate entertainment, interact with their peers, friends, and family, and can provide vital distraction from an otherwise generally unpleasant experience.”
This is an awesome idea. Kids who are in the hospital for any length of time want something to distract them whether it be books or game exc. And it just so happens that the childrens hospital that my cardiologist is at is on the list of hospitals so I definitely want to spotlight this charity.
Everything to do with Heart Disease and Congenital Heart Defects. Just to spread awareness about the seriousness of Heart Disease.

4. Books for Kids by ieatwords

Christmas BookList

Uglies Graphic Novel

What’s on my Christmas list?

I asked for Scott Westerfelds new Leviathan series, (Leviathan, Goliath, Behemoth) as well as his new graphic novel. (Uglies: Shay’s Story)

I have read but don’t own yet, the Hunger Games trilogy, as well as the Harry Potter box set. (Only read the 1st book, but have seen all the movies)

I have also heard good things about the Eragon series. (Which I got for my cousin for Christmas, so maybe I can borrow from her when she’s done) I know I’m dreaming. But I think I might get at least Leviathan. Because I expressed told my mom that I had to have it.

Hunger Games Trilogy Box Set

So…pretty much any of those mentioned above, are at the top of my list. But anything in my TBR pile would be lovely to receive. I’m sure either way that it will be a good Christmas and I am really excited about it this year

So, now that I’ve shared all that I am hoping to get for Christmas what are you all hoping for? What’s on your Christmas list? Comment below, and answer or Link me if you have a blog post of video.

Harry Potter Hardback Box Set

Julie Kagawa? New Series?!

As I’m sure most of you know, Jullie Kagawa the author of the Iron Fae series is coming out with a new series. And it’s about..vampires! I’m not sure when this was announced…but I just found out. I have heard tons of good things about the Iron Fae series, so I’m sure this will be getting alot of hype as well. But the cover reveal is pretty cool, and I wanted to share with you all.
I know, I’m incredibly behind on reading the Iron Fae series but I definitely plan to read it as well as her new series.

Expected publication: April 24th 2012 by Harlequin Teen

You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their “pets.” In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero…and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She’s passing for human…for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.

Blast from the Past

So before I get started here is a link to what I will mainly be talking about. And, please excuse my random, fangirl-y post.

I was searching through B&N at 2012 releases, and working on upcoming blog posts for December. I had planned to do a “Blast from the Past” post on books I read when I was younger and whatnot, when I came across the book Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later, and I had to post it now.

Woah! My mind is blown. I read the SVH books years ago, when my aunt gave them to me to read since she was long done with them. (sadly I don’t still own them.) I really want to read it, yet I’m worried that “Ten Years Later” will ruin what I thought of the original books.

Am I the only one who has read any/all of these books?

What are books that you read when you were younger?
